DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Ulysse Nardin, Locle, British military lever escapement chronometer deck watch with box, 56mm, silver OF original Nardin case with "H.S.2" marking to rear with British military pheon (broad arrow), white enamel dial, SW-button-set, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, 19-20J, expansion balance is probably compound (Guillaume Invar) style, blued hairspring, gilt mvt, s#122287 with matching serial number to dial. Comes in wooden box with brass insert to hold watch and with a small card in the upper lid marked "Issued from H.M. Chronometer Depot, Bristol." that also has a lightly visible 1943 date stamping in ink at bottom. The "H.S.2" case marking is for Hydrographic Services Class 2 rating, designating a chronometer watch adjusted for isochronism in at least five positions, with only the "H.S.1" designation for chronometer with detent escapement being of higher ranking.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some mild spots and areas of hazing to gilt surfaces; virtually flawless dial with infinitesimal pinpoint edge nick under bezel at 3:30, small fine scratch at edge under bezel at 11:30; nearly mint hands; case shows hardly any wear, some areas of dark patina to pendant, some mild fine scratches, superb contract marking detail; case as-made without bow or provision for seating of bow, crown shows very little wear; case as-made without crystal or provision for seating of crystal. Wooden box shows medium wear, exterior scratches and scuffs, a very fine surface split to a portion of the upper left side; inner brass holder in good condition with some mild areas of finish loss, good beveled glass crystal.
